• Maritávora Grande Reserva Branco 2015

The magazine Grandes Escolhas of August 2018 held a Great Tasting with whites from the Douro, the text by João Paulo Martins states that “the most important thing is to achieve a good maturation while conserving acidity. For this, the location of the vineyard is essential ”.

With great pride, Maritávora Grande Reserva Branco 2015, from our beloved old vine over 100 years old, came in first place, alongside Guro, Redoma, Mirabilis and Maria Isabel Vinhas da Princesa.

It is presented as “Old vine with more than 100 years old, in the Douro Superior. Fermentation and aged for 6 months in barrel. Citrus loaded in color, complex aroma, still closed and needing time. Note the wood, the ripe fruit, the mysterious side of the scraped stone. Excellent acidity, voluminous, well designed structure. Serious, vigorous and promising. (12.5%) ”

  • MillésimeBIO 2018

The MillésimeBIO fair took place between 29 and 31 January in Montpellier – France. This event is probably the most important of all dedicated exclusively to organic wines. More than 800 producers from all regions of the world were present, most of them French, a country where the production of organic wines is of significant importance. Portugal was represented with 10 producers, the second time that Maritávora was present at this fair.

Unlike the vast majority of wine fairs, at MillésimeBIO there are no personalized stands or any type of “show off”. Tables are the same for all producers and locations are drawn. They do not even group producers by countries or regions. It is an interesting concept, very democratic, and one that focuses on wines and not on stands.

It is an event reserved exclusively for professionals and visitors from all over the world attend. We received visits from France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Austria, USA, Japan, Sweden, Finland and others.

  • Vertical competition of the Great White Reserve 2004-2016

A vertical tasting was carried out in November 2017 with the wines Maritávora Grande Reserva from 2004 to 2016. These wines (called Reserva from 2004 to 2009), are made with grapes from a small old vine planted around 1890. There are many varieties planted, highlighting Códega do Larinho, Rabigato and Viosinho. Others, such as Gouveio, Malvasia Fina, Chasselas, Évora and Uva Salsa, are also present.
Thanks to the stubbornness and affection of the three female generations following the founder José Junqueiro Júnior, this same vineyard has been in production for almost 130 years now.
With a very low yield, the annual production varies between 1000 and 2500 bottles depending on the conditions of each year. The grapes are fermented in French oak barrels, aged for about five months in the barrel using batonnage. After bottling, in the spring following the harvest, there is a bottle aging for at least 12 months. These are white guard wines that promise great longevity.

Written by Manuel Gonçalves da Silva, an article was published in the magazine Visão de 21 de Dezembro, commenting on this event.
